((Closed for Amaranth and me.))
The Minuit sighed, his flanks pulled inward. He was the last and final Prince left of the Sauras that remained in the mountains. His name was Soul, and he was a rare beauty, pure black but for a single white star on his forehead and short white socks on each of his legs except the front left.
He hissed through his fangs. A dim video of old times, a time of the Nohooves and things called day-gones, arose to his mind, showing a Nohoove mounting a Riviere Saura and burning something that fell from the sky. The clip was etched in his mind by the old Albino female who taught the herd things they should forget. She had passed on a few suns ago, and he missed her endless supply of memories that had been passed on to her.
Soul was also bored. There seemed nothing for him to do but the occasional Flight- and that reminded him of the fact that there was only one remaining Princess left. And Enticelle. His breath caught for a moment and his eyes whirled a multitude of colors ranging from blue to red in his memory of her. He had caught her twice before, and he desperately loved her with a deep passion that could not be understood by any but the Saura. And, according to the old Albino, those who had Bonded to them those long centuries ago.

The Enticelle fidgeted. Her name was Enti (how original her dam had been) and she was beautiful. She was pure red-brown, with one white stocking, and had the shape of a delicate morgan of the old Earth, a place where they hadn't had wings or anything interesting whatsoever and a place that had died. Memories had been passed down of being crammed into small, dark places and then nothing for the longest time, and then they had been here. She had joint memories, also, of a dragon-like creature from long ago before the Sauras had really been Sauras. She knew this, and accepted it. But Enti was not happy. She was... fidgety. Flight fidgety. She hissed, and her fangs were visible. With a demanding whinny, she jumped off of her hill, and took Flight.

He whinnied back, forceful and dignified, before leaping to the air, strong blue-black wings thrusting him higher. The leathery hide caught the air and he glided, the sharp points of the peaks down below.
Only one goal was in his mind; and it was to catch Enti yet again in Flight. Watching her feathered wings while steadily beating his own, Soul quickly realized that he and Enti were the last of the Sauras that could bring a clutch to the mountains. And hopefully, for the Nohooves to discover again...

Enti also realized this, and flew faster. If she could make her Flight long, perhaps she could lay a big Clutch. She whinnied in excitement. She would save her people! ...Well, she would save the Sauras, at any rate...

He answered with a nicker, jet coat burning in the sun and excitement showing in the jeweled eyes. Tail and mane whipped behind him, stirred by the breezes of flying. He was going to take the Flight easy, but it was a struggle not to catch up to her now, and Soul would be fighting his instinct to let her lay a larger clutch the entire time...

Sensing Soul's impatience, she flew faster, leaving him in her metaphorical dust. Her wings flapped strongly as she came up to a cliff, bounced off of it by her hooves, and shot back over Soul's head.

She was keeping him at bay. Oh, how his heart longed for her! In the end, he would catch her -they both knew it- but he would try to win her over as he had did in the first Flight, and as he sprung off the cliff to be left many Saura lengths behind her, he went through his arsenel.
Thinking to her in words, in something the Albino had called 'song' was a good way to start, although it didn't do much for Flights. Soul wouldn't do that- it was more for those competing in a Flight or Run that was for someone besides a Princess.
Memories were good. Real ones, of them running side by side after their first clutch had hatched to the skies. Or of him bringing her a redfruit (apple) because Princesses expressed dislike for any meat besides fish, and loved fruits and nuts. Them in the second flight, when the sun had been setting and her wings looked like they were on fire...
Paintings were one of the best things he could use to break her down, to let Enti accept him. But he was horrible at coming up with still pictures, an art that a Pluie in their herd had perfected, but since so many of his were depressing no one bothered.
And then was the thing that ever Saura treasured, and it hurt to give away. Their dreams. Soul sighed, still trying to keep up with Enti. He did have a dream of his in mind that he could give her- but he knew as soon as he did it would be gone. And however many times she would try to explain it to him later on, who wouldn't remember, or understand it. This would be the key to her heart, what he would use near the end...

Enti whinnied her approval. He was remembering all the right things, and making her very happy. How she loved redfruit! In fact, she wanted one now... So she swept down, grabbed one in her teeth from a tree, grabbed another, and tossed it at him. It was very funny to see it hit him in the forehead. She, unlike most, had a sadistic sense of humor, but she'd never actually throw anything that'd hurt him. So she ate her redfruit, showing off her multi-tasking- eating and flying is rather difficult when you've got none of those movey thingies that the Nohooves had.
((They're just like The Giver, right? -grins-))

((I didn't think of that...but yeah. That's what their dreams are like, and it's very precious to them.))
A redfruit hit him on his pole, and Soul squealed with excitement. He didn't care if they were acting like little foals again- he flung a yellowfruit back (Yellow apple) It bounced off her dock, tha part where her tail joined her body, before falling down into the gully they were over. He sent her another memory, one of the herd, /their/ herd, and how they had responded with much excitement as their second clutch had hatched. And when they had made a long journey to the sea, Soul and Enti's one time out of the mountains, and them kicking up sand at each other.

Enti squealed and flew faster again, outpacing his fruity projectiles. She nickered at the memory- it was a good one.

Already two hours had past, but he felt neither strength receding or too much of an urge to catch. Reliving the memories felt so good, like a lake of icewater on a hot, sunny day. Another memory sprang unbidden to his mind and Soul shared it; the one of them splashing in one of the cold mouintain lakes, manes and tails dripping. He had caught a fish for her too- a large one that smack him on the nose as he set it down before her.

Enti whickered her amusement- that had been funny. She slowed slightly, flicking her tail in his direction and glancing back to see where he was.

He was filled with a surge of joy when Enti looked at him, and it made his already wobbly heart melt into a puddle inside of him. The Minuit nickered almost inaudibly to her, an ache just begining in his wings...
