Name: Neranate
Nickname: Neran
Wanted Contraction: N’ate
Rank: Journeyman Harper turned Candidate
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Relationship Status: Single
Appearance:
Neranate isn’t the most attractive teenager, but he certainly more attractive than the average male. The most obvious characteristic of his is his flaming red hair, though his grey-green eyes stand out more than slightly. Tall and skinny, he is strong and his muscles are defined, but his thin frame stops him from gaining the muscle that most can. His long, agile fingers are muscled from his work with drums and his toes beat constantly with music when those hands work. Thin lips that have a tendency to be chapped, especially after they found a use other than moving to speak, complete his appearance. Leaving him only slightly awkward looking, but over all, attractive.
Personality:
Neranate is very dedicated and music orientated. He never gives up a project that he’s begun whether it’s learning to
play the drums or finding out everyone’s backgrounds. He is passionate about what he does regularly, but his passion has been limited to music so far. This passion has led him to learn not only musical sequences on a set of drums, but also harper’s code on the drums. Neranate left to get his knots at the Harper Hall when he was thirteen, the journeyman harper at his hold was more than eager to send him off. He was talented, but not too fond of his teacher.
The young boy is more than slightly gifted when it comes to intelligence. He remembers almost everything that it said to him or that he says himself. Even when he doesn’t appear to be listening, he hears everything and will never forget it. He can calculate problems much faster than most and he’s particularly interested in history. Neranate, however, isn’t great at putting what he thinks into words. His poor use of language is his own fault that greatly restricts him in his desire to become a harper. Although proficient musically, harpers must be known for their discretion and ability to communicate well.
An oddity that is more than present in Neranate’s personality is his dislike for those who are less than beautiful, whether male or female. He finds himself repulsed when in the present of someone he finds unattractive and he does his best to leave their presence. However, his liking for beautiful women counters his repulsion to those less than beautiful. He’s notorious for being a flirt even at his younger age. His likes and dislikes set him at odds with those above him and those on the lesser end of the deal, but in the end, those he doesn’t discriminate against tend to like him once he lets them.
History:
Neranate was born in a small hold on the Southern Continent. As a youth, he was always a burden to his sickly mom and busy father. He was the youngest of two. The healer had told the mother than she would never be able to have children so when she gave birth to Neranate's older sister, the couple was ecstatic. However, the new mother's health became taxed and she was soon unable to work. When she became pregnant with Neranate, the pair began to worry. Even if Yamain, Neranate's mother, could have had children normally, they'd only wanted one. Another child just wasn't in their plan; it wasn't good.
Still, a healthy young boy was delivered into the world, almost killing his mom. After that, he was placed under the care of his 8 turn old sister unless he needed to be nursed. A child wasn't a very good parent for a baby, but Yamain refused to care for him, saying she was too sickly. Some said she harbored hatred towards the child that almost claimed her life, others said that she was just tired and rundown. Still, the effect it had on the young boy was more than just negative.
As soon as Neran got old enough to realize that his treatment wasn't fair, he retreated to the teaching ballads and hidden corridors of the simple hold. If he wasn't wanted, then he'd make sure to stay out of everyone's way. He wasn't even kind to the journeyman harper who taught him how to play the drums and beat out the sequences. This became his passion, next to hiding and being bitter towards others. As soon as his teacher suggested it, he left for Harper Hall, ready for the change.
He soon found there that life was better. His attitude wasn't bitter, but he found pecularities that had appeared in his time of hatred still persisted. But that was just who he wasn't and he refused to change for anyone. Slowly, he learned to play string and wind instruments, loving the music and the challenge. Then, just as he was getting ready to enter his final year before he walked the tables, it came time for him to choose. Searched and confused as to what he was going to do with his life, he had to decide between music and dragons. When, however, he heard that he could still have his music by serving as one of the few harpers of the area, he agreed. As one final act of kindness, the hall gave him his journeyman knots and sent him to stand.
